The 2008 NFL draft is scheduled for April 26th and looks to be solid at the wide receiver, runningback, cornerback and the defensive line positions. The most highly regarded prospects this year are DT Glenn Dorsey and OT Jake Long from Michigan. DE's Sedrick Ellis, Vernon Golston and Chris Long are also expected to be among the first 10 selections. Although there does not seem to be any true franchise QB's, Boston College's Matt Ryan has the potential to be a solid pro, and along with Louisville's Brian Brohm should go in the first round.  The wide receiver class features a good group of promising prospects, headlined by Malcolm Kelly, DeSean Jackson, Limas SweedEarly Doucet, James Hardy, and Devin Thomas, who has boosted his stock considerably with a strong showing in February workouts.
For fantasy purposes, junior RB Darren McFadden looks to be the top impact player.  McFadden compares favorably with 2007's top rookie Adrian Peterson, and has the speed and power to be an immediate star in the NFL.  Oregon's Jonathan Stewart is also expected to be selected in the first round, and is the type of big, powerful runner that could be a first year starter in the right situation.  Other probable first day selections from 2008's deep runningback class include McFadden's Arkansas teammate Felix Jones, Steve Slaton from West Virginia, Rashard Mendenhall from Illinois and Rutgers star Ray Rice. Also keep an eye on Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles, two smaller backs with sub-4.4 speed that could find fantasy relevance as early as this year.
